West Street Church
This new-build mews house replaced a smaller two story house in a conservation area in centralLondon that already had the benefit of windows and a terrace at the back of the house, it self unusual for a London mews house.
Negotiations with the local planning department provided for retaining windows and moving the terrace up a level in the new design.
The constraints of a small site helped generate a novel set of ideas that were tightly tailored to the Client’s requirements, but introduced an entirely new arrangement where the living spaces occupy the top floor, benefiting from excellent natural light, a large terrace and views.
A middle level of bedroom and bathrooms, and a walk through dressing room acts as a ‘spine’ and provides privacy for the master bedroom from the open staircase.
A drive through hallway allows our client to park a car at the rear, close it off with a shutter and be left with a large hallway area – ideal for drying dogs after a walk in the park!
