West Street Church
West Street Church is a grade 2 listed Chapel situated in East Grinstead.
A thriving congregation wished to improve facilities and importantly make improvement to the outside of the existing grouping of three adjacent structures : the church, the entrance building and the adjacent smaller side hall.
The aims of the proposals are:
– To form a coherent side to a public space
– To replace the architecturally unsympathetic and poorly constructed c1880s single storey foyer/entrance building with a new building of architectural quality
– To link the two adjacent buildings internally and externally in a more harmonious way
– Improve accommodation within the small side hall, including providing better natural light
– New elevation to the side hall to better integrate it into a new overall design
Constraints included: permission only to build within the foot print of the previous buildings on the site and to respect a shared forecourt area.
